Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/8 inches (3.49 cm) in height overall consisting of a grenade charged with a crimson and blue Taeguk throughout and emitting three crimson flames, all supported by a gold scroll inscribed "SUPPORTING THE BEST" in crimson letters.

Symbolism
The grenade with three flames represents the Battalion's three-fold mission: to furnish conventional ammunition, special ammunition and explosive disposal support. In addition, the Taeguk with three flames refers to the Battalion's service in Korea for which it was awarded three Meritorious Unit streamers. Crimson and yellow/gold are representative of Ordnance.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 20 June 1966. It was amended to revise the description and symbolism on 21 July 1987. The insignia was amended to revise the description on 21 January 1994.

Symbolism

Shield

Crimson and yellow are the colors associated with Ordnance. The grenade represents the Battalion's three-fold mission: to furnish conventional munitions, special munitions and explosive disposal support. The Taeguk represents service in Korea and the three segments of flame issuing from the Taeguk signify the unit awards credited to the Battalion in that service. The five piles in chief symbolize the five campaign credits awarded the unit for European service during World War II.
